Ep 94 - Black Panther: A Nation Under Our Feet - Show Notes

This Week: A new era begins for the Black Panther! MacArthur Genius and National Book Award-winning writer T-Nehisi Coates (BETWEEN THE WORLD AND ME) takes the helm, confronting T'Challa with a dramatic upheaval in Wakanda that will make leading the African nation tougher than ever before. When a superhuman terrorist group that calls itself The People sparks a violent uprising, the land famed for its incredible technology and proud warrior traditions will be thrown into turmoil. If Wakanda is to survive, it must adapt--but can its monarch, one in a long line of Black Panthers, survive the necessary change? Heavy lies the head that wears the cowl!

Panther Punch

 

INGREDIENTS:

  • 375 ml Blue Curacao (half of a 750 ml bottle)
  • 1 L Mango Vodka
  • 1.75 L Lemonade (my mom uses Simply Lemonade)
  • 12 oz can Sprite
  • lemon slices, optional

DIRECTIONS:

Combine all ingredients in a large pitcher or jug. Serve cold with lemon slices, if desired



Wakanda War

 

  • 2 oz brandy
  • 4 sprigs mint
  • 1 tsp superfine sugar
  • 1 oz club soda
  • garnish: orange slice and cherry
  •  

Add first all ingredients to an old fashioned glass, muddle and fill with ice and garnish.



The Backhand Panther 

  • 7/8 ounces (25 mL) of raspberry liqueur
  • 5 ounces (150 mL) of an energy drink
  • 1/3 ounce (10 mL) of lychee liqueur
  • 4 strawberries
  • 10 ice cubes
  • Sugar syrup

 

  • Hull (the top) the 4 strawberries. Place one of them on the side and the other three in the cocktail shaker.

  • Pour a small amount of the sugar syrup in the cocktail shaker.

  • Use the muddle stick or fork to pound or press the ingredients together.

  • Fill the cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes.

  • Pour in the lychee and raspberry liqueurs.

  • Cover and shake the cocktail shaker.

  • Fill your collins glass with ice and strain the mixture into the glass.

  • Add some of the energy drink on the top.

  • Garnish the drink with the remaining strawberry and enjoy.



Royal Flush

  • 3 oz Cranberry Juice
  • 1 1/2 oz Crown Royal
  • 3/4 oz Peach Schnaps
  • 1/2 oz Black Raspberry liquor

Shake the shit out of it, and pour over ice.  Garnish with a cherry and serve.

Cocktails



Fossil Fuel

Ingredients:

      • 1 part SVEDKA Citron
      • 1 part SVEDKA Raspberry
      • ½ part triple sec
      • ½ part simple syrup
      • ½ part fresh lime juice
      • dash celery bitters
      • splash grapefruit juice
      • splash club soda

Combine the Citron and Raspberry vodkas with the triple sec, lime juice, simple syrup, and bitters in an ice-filled shaker. Shake and strain into a glass. Top with grapefruit juice and club soda and finish it off with a lemon, lime, and orange wedge garnish.



Teenager Tea

  • 2 oz silver rum
  • 2 oz triple sec
  • 1 oz sweet and sour
  • 1 oz grapefruit juice
  • 1 oz Coke

Pour over ice in a shaker and shake the shit out of it. Strain into a glass filled with ice



Arsenic and Old Lace

  • 3/4 oz London Dry Gin 
  • 3/4 oz Vom Fass 72% Green Absinthe
  • 1/2 oz Creme de Violette
  • 1/4 oz  Dolin Dry Vermouth

Stir with ice. Strain into a chilled cocktail coupe.



Budget Jungle Juice

 

2 Gallons of Orange Flavored Drink

  • 1/2 Gallon of Fruit Punch
  • 1 Gallon of Pink Lemonade 
  • 1 Gallon of Pineapple / orange Juice Blend
  • 4 (750 mL) Bottles of Vodka
  • 2 (750 ml) Bottles of White Rum

Combined all into a very large container.  Add Fresh fruit if you so desire.  Drink from Red Solo Cup, and pretend that its awesome.

Birthday Cake Shot 

  • 3/4 oz Vodka
  • 3/4 oz Frangelico Liqueur
  • Fresh Lemon Wedge
  • Tsp. Sugar

 

  • Fill a shot glass with equal parts vodka and Frangelico hazelnut liqueur
  • Serve with a lemon wedge coated in granulated sugar


Mr. Fantastic Blue

  •  2 oz Apple Brandy
  • 1 oz Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 oz Maraschino Cherries
  • 1/2 Blue Curacou

Mix in glass with Ice.  Stir until well chilled. Rim Glass With sugar.  Strain Drink into Glass with Sugar.



 The Human Torch

  • 1 Strawberry
  • 1 small slice of jhabinaro

Muddle together in cocktail shaker

add

  • 1 1/2 oz of White Rum
  • 1/2 oz of lime juice
  • 1/2 oz of sherry
  • 1/4 oz of simple syrup

Shake the shit out of it. Strain into collins glass. Top with Ginger Beer. Float 151 on top, and light it on fire.

In a rocks glass with cubed ice.  Shake the shit out of it. 



Negative Zone

 

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1/2 oz midori
  • 1/2 oz Bacardi coconut
  • 3 oz pineapple juice

Add to shaker with ice, shake the shit out of it and strain into an ice filled glass and garnish with pineapple slice.



Cabana Fever

In a tall glass with ice add:

  • 1.5 oz Captain Morgan Pineapple Rum
  • 3/4 oz Lime Juice
  • 1/2 oz Simple Syrup

Stir, Top with ginger beer, garnish with Grapefruit wedge. 

 



WTF

  • 2 shots jugar 
  • 1.5 shots Vodka
  • fill rest with favorite sour pucker

Santa’s Little Helper

  • 1 bottle of champagne (OR use a lemon-lime soda like Sierra Mist to make it non-alcoholic)
  • 1 bottle of Cranberry Juice Blend
  • 1 cup of sugar (try to use superfine sugar if you can find it)
  • 1 c. frozen lemonade concentrate (thawed)
  • 1 c. frozen orange juice concentrate (thawed)
  • ice
  • water
  • garnishes: lemon slices, cranberries, fresh rosemary sprigs


Reluctant Superhero

  • 1 oz Gin
  • 1 oz Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 oz Cointreau
  • 1 teaspoon Simple Syrup

Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice.  Shake to blend and chill.   Strain into a cocktail glass. 



Huckleberry Lemonade 

  • 1 pt  Huckleberry Vodka
  • 1.5 pt Lemonade


Huck Finn 

  • 1.5 oz Huckleberry Vodka
  • 0.5 oz blue caracou
  • 4 oz lemonade

Shake the shit out of it. add .5 oz of basil simple syrup.

Old Fashioned

  • 1 teaspoon (5g) superfine sugar (or 1 sugar cube)
  • 2 to 3 dashes bitters (Angostura is traditional and works well)
  • 2 ounces (60ml) bourbon or rye whiskey
  • Orange and/or cherry, to garnish (optional)

Place sugar in an Old Fashioned glass. Douse with bitters and add a few drops of water. Add whiskey and stir until sugar is dissolved. Add several large ice cubes and stir rapidly with a bar spoon to chill. Garnish, if you like, with a slice of orange and/or a cherry.



The Wasteland

  • 500 ml Smirnoff Blue Label Vodka
  • 250 ml Gold Tequilla
  • 500 ml Wild Turkey Burbon
  • 100 ml Sambucca
  • 300 ml Black Ice
  • 300 ml Midori
  • 1 bottle of ale
  • 1 liter of cola

Mix together in a jug.



Hillbilly hulk

  • 1pt Moonshine
  • 1pt Midori

Duke McQueen

  • 1/2 fluid ounce Triple Sec
  • 1 Champagne
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon orange juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon maraschino liqueur

Instructions

  1. Shake all ingredients (except champagne) with ice and strain into a champagne flute.
  2. Fill with chilled champagne, stir and serve. 


Ray Gun 

In a champagne Flute Add

  • 1/2 Shot Chartuse Green Liquor
  • 3/4 Shot Blue Curacou
  • Fill the the top with champagne. 


Audios Mother Fucker

  • 3/4 oz Vodka,
  • 3/4 oz Gin, 
  • 3/4 oz Rum, 
  • 3/4 oz Tequila, 
  • 2 oz sour mix
  • 1/2 oz Lemon Lime soda
  • Lemon Wedge,
  • Lime Wedge

Add all ingredients in glass, and stir with a straw.  Garnish and Drink.

Water to Wine (Sangria) 

  • 3/4 cup superfine sugar
  • 1 cup tap water 
  • 1 orange, sliced 
  • 1 lime, sliced
  • 5 (750 milliliter) bottles red wine
  • 12 cubes ice cubes
  • 6 fluid ounces sparkling water 
  • 1 cup fresh raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, or halved strawberries

Dissolve sugar in tap water in a large pitcher. Add orange slices, lime slices, and wine. Stir in ice cubes until cold. Top with sparkling water. Serve in red-wine glasses, with fresh berries in each glass.



Anti-Christ 

  • 1/3 Shot 151 Rum
  • 1/3 Shot Pepper-vodka
  • 1/3 Shot Everclear
  • Top with 3 dashes Tabasco 


Lazarus Dog

  • 1 oz Vodka
  • 1/2 oz conhaque 
  • 1 oz Coffee liqueur
  • 1 oz Espresso (hot)

Pour all into shaker with ice, shake and strain into a chilled martini glass.

This Week: Hellboy is one of the most celebrated comics series in recent years. The ultimate artists' artist and a great storyteller whose work is in turns haunting, hilarious, and spellbinding. Mike Mignola has won numerous awards in the comics industry and beyond. When strangeness threatens to engulf the world, a strange man will come to save it. Sent to investigate a mystery with supernatural overtones, Hellboy discovers the secrets of his own origins, and his link to the Nazi occultists who promised Hitler a final solution in the form of a demonic avatar.



Drinking Game 

Rib-it rib-it - Every time a frog appears, take a drink 

Must Loves Tentacles - Whenever you see something tentical like thing

They Shoot Nazi’s Don’t They? - Every time you see a swatzika, take a drink.  



Rasputin 

  • 2 oz Raspberry Vodka
  • 2.5 oz Cranberry Juice
  • 1.5 oz Fresh Squeezed Grapefruit Juice

Shake and pour into glass with ice. Garnish with lime wedge.  



Hellfire

  • 1 1/2 oz tequila
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 tsp lime juice
  • crushed ice
  • 1 tsp cherry brandy

Add first the ingredients into a shaker, shake the shit out of it and strain into an old fashioned glass filled with crushed ice. Drizzle cherry brandy over the top.



Squished Frog

 

  •  15 ml Melon Liqure
  • 10 ml Advocate liquors
  • 10ml Irish cream
  • 2 dashes grenadine 

Add melon liquor, layers advocate, add two dashes of grenade, and layer irish cream on top  Should have 3 layers of liquor in glass. 



Cavendish

  • Crushed ice in high ball glass
  • 1 oz Vodka
  • 2 oz Bitters
  • 2 drops of Lemon juice
  • Top with Champagne
  • Lemon Twist for garnish

Shake vodka and bitters, strain into glass.  Add lemon juice.  top with champagne and garnish.

Thou Shalt Not Take the Name of the Lord in Vain - Every time someone says talks about god or the lord, take a drink

Witness Protection Program - ever time you realized what a heroes name has been changed to, take a drink. 

Burn him he's a Witch! - anytime someone says Witchbreed take a drink. 

Hey that's not a Mister - every time they refer to Jean Grey as Master Grey, take a drink. 



Orchard Bonfire

Orange peel, for oils and garnish
1.5 oz. Lagavulin
1 oz. Williams and Humbert 15-year Drysack Oloroso Sherry
.5 oz. St. George Spiced Pear Liqueur
1 to 2 barspoons of honey syrup (equal parts honey and water, combined), to taste

Press orange peel against insides of Old Fashioned glass. Set aside. Stir the rest of ingredients together with one large ice cube in a cocktail shaker for 20 seconds. Strain cocktail into glass over a fresh large ice cube, and garnish with orange peel.



Virginia Dare

  • 2 slices of pear
  • 2 oz dark rum
  • 1/2 oz Benedictine
  • 2 dashes Agostura Bitters

Muddle one slice of pear in mixing glass. Add rest of ingredients, shake the shit out of it and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with pear slice.



Hot Honey Crisp

  • 2.5 cups Apple Cider
  • 3 oz Barenjager Apple Liquor
  • 2 oz Apple Jack Whiskey

Shake ingredients together. add to lowball glass, garnish with some cinnamon stick. 



The Flip

  • 12 oz low-hop, high-malt beer (Moylan’s Scotch Ale)
  • 2 oz Jamaican Rum (Appleton Estates)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Teaspoon molasses
  • Fresh grated nutmeg

Keep the beer room temperature to make it easier to heat the mixture. Whip the egg, molasses and rum together in a heat-tolerant vessel. Add the beer. Stick a red-hot piece of iron into that vessel and don’t pull it out until the foaming subsides. Grate fresh nutmeg over the top. Be safe with this one.

  • 2 ounces dry vermouth
  • twist of lemon peel

Pour both vermouths into an old fashioned glass over ice. Stir, twist lemon peel over drink, and drop in.

  • 2 oz Vodka
  • 4 oz Ginger Ale
  • 2 dashes of bitters

Stir together and garnish with an orange slice

  • 2 oz  Amaretto
  • 2 oz Spiced Rum
  • 2 oz Burbon
  • 1 oz Cranberry Juice

Shake and strain into a glass or test tubes  (aka super soldier serum)



Gypsy Queen

  • 2 oz Vodka
  • 1 oz Benedictine Liquor
  • 2 dashes bitters

Shake the shit out of it and pour into a martini glass

Ingredients

  • 2 thyme sprigs 
  • 1 1/2 ounces Tea Vodka
  • 3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons honey mixed with 
  • 2 teaspoons of water

In a cocktail shaker, lightly muddle 1 of the thyme sprigs. Add ice and the Tea Vodka, lemon juice and honey syrup and shake well. Strain into a chilled martini glass or coupe and garnish with the remaining thyme sprig.

To make the tea vodka, steep English breakfast tea in vodka



White Rose Cocktail 

  • 1 whole Egg White
  • splash lemon juice
  • marishio lacquer
  • splash orange juice
  • 1.5 shots gin

Shake and pour into chilled martini glass. 



Vengeance

  • 0.5 oz 151 Rum
  • 0.5 oz bar Rum
  • 0.5 oz Tripple Sec
  • 0.5 oz Coffee Liqueur
  • 0.5 oz Sour Mix
  • 0.5 oz Lime Juice
  • 0.5 oz Grenadine

Shake serve in a water glass with ice, garnish with fruit (orange and cherry)



The Vendetta

  • 1.5 oz Vodka
  • 1.5 oz brandy
  • 0.25 oz pernod
  • 0.75 oz bitters
  • 6 basil leaves

Shake over ice, strain into a rocks glass.  Garnish with basil sprigs

Salem Witch 

  • 1 cup ice cubes 
  • 1/2 fluid ounce vodka 
  • 1/2 fluid ounce raspberry schnapps 
  • 1/2 fluid ounce melon liqueur (such as Midori®) 
  • 1 splash lime juice 
  • 1/4 cup sweet and sour mix 
  • 1 fluid ounce club soda 
  • 1 splash grenadine syrup 
  • Add all ingredients to list 

Fill a collins glass with ice, and pour in the vodka, raspberry schnapps, melon liqueur, and splash of lime juice. Pour in the sour mix until the glass is 2/3 full and top off the glass with the soda water. Stir gently to mix, then add a splash of grenadine to serve.



Witch's Brew

  • 1 6oz package of lime green jello
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 2 liter bottle of sprite
  • 2 cups of vodka or more

Dissolve jello in boiling water. Pour into punch bowl and add the rest of the ingredients. Let chill to room temp and serve over ice.



Skull Shot

  • 1 pt Kahula 
  • 1 pt Baileys Irish cream

  • .75 oz Tenneyson Absinthe

HOW TO MAKE THE NECROMANCER COCKTAIL

  1. Add all the ingredients to a shaker and fill with ice.
  2. Shake, and strain into a coupe glass.
  3. Garnish with a lemon twist.

  • 3/4 oz dry gin
  • 3/4 oz dry vermouth
  • 3/4 oz sweet vermouth
  • 4 dashes absinthe
  • 1 twist of lemon

Combine and shake the shit out of it and pour into a martini glass.

  • Pour over ice in an old fashioned glass and garnish with lime and orange wedge

Shake togetherand pour into chilled glass that has been driseled with chocolate sauce.

Prepare the glass by rubbing a lemon slice around the rim and dipping it in superfine sugar. Combine the brandy, Cointreau and bitters in mixing glass with ice. Stir, strain into a glass and top with sparkling wine.

 Just before serving, add a splash of grenadine to drag the Baileys down causing a curdling effect.

  • 3 oz vanila vodka
  • 1 ounce kahlua
  • 1 ounce creme de cacao

Alien Brain Hemorrhage 

  • 3 cl Peach Schnapps 
  • 2 cl Bailey's Irish Cream
  • 2 Dashes of Blue Curaçao
  • 1 Dash Grenadine 

To make an Alien Brain Hemorrhage cocktail, fill a shot glass with Peach Schnapps and float Bailey’s Irish Cream on top. Add a Blue Curacao and finish it with Grenadine Syrup which gives that distinctive look to the cocktail.


Stiff Back Brace

  • Absinthe
  • 3 dashes Peychaud's bitters
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 sugar cube
  • 2 oz rye whiskey

Rinse chilled rocks glass with absinthe and set aside.

In separate glass, muddle sugar cube and bitters. Add rye and stir. Pour into ready rocks glass and garnish with a slice of lemon peel.



Xenomorphs Blood

  • 1/4 can of Bacardi Margarita mix
  • 1/2 Barardi Limone
  • 1/2 Basil leafs
  • 1 Jalapeno chill deseeded and chopped. 

Muddle Jalapeno and Basil together in bottom of shaker.  Add Barmaid Limone and Margarita to the shaker.  Shake the shit out to it. Pour over ice into a rocks glass.



Xenomorphs Blood Bath

  • 2 oz Barardi 151
  • 1 oz Midori
  • 1 oz Orange Juice 
  • 2 oz Seven Up

In a shaker half full of ice add all the ingredients and shake the shit out of it (with the Seven Up it will spray everywear, you may not want to mix the ingredients this way).

Preparation Combine spirit, lime and shell in a highball or wine glass. Add ice, stir and then add sparkling mineral water.

  • 1 oz honey simple syrup

Add all to a shaker over ice, shake the shit out of it, strain into a martini glass or over ice,

  • 1 1/2 ounces Heaven Hill 6-year Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon
  • 3/4 ounce Bigallet China-China Amer Liqueur
  • 1/2 ounce Campari 
  • 2 dashes orange bitters
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters
  • Orange peel, for serving

Stir the bourbon, China-China Amer Liqueur, Campari, orange bitters and Angostura bitters together in a mixing glass with ice. Strain the cocktail into a rocks glass with 1 large ice cube. Garnish with the orange peel.



Angry Archer

  • 4 oz Angry Orchard Crisp Apple
  • 1 oz white rum
  • .5 oz lime juice
  • .5 oz simple syrup
  • 1 dash of bitters
  • 2 slices of cucumber s muddled
  • 6 mint leaves muddled


Poisoned Arrow

  • 0.5 oz Malibu Rum
  • 0.5 oz light rum
  • 0.5 oz Blue Curacao
  • 0.5 oz Apple Pucker or Midori
  • Equal parts sweet and sour mix and pineapple juice

Shake the shit out of it, pour it over ice, and garnish with a cherry.

Cocktails



All American - (Apple bottom Shake)

Ingredients:

  • Salior Jerry Rum
  • Apple Pie
  • Vanilla Ice Cream 

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a blender and mix. Add whipped cream as a garnish if desired.



#lipstick Incident

  • 1 part Fireball
  • 1 part peach liquor
  • 1 splash of grenadine
  • 1 splash of lemon lime soda

Mix liquors over ice, strain into a glass, ad the grenadine and lemon lime soda.



The Homecoming

  • 1.25 oz Baileys Irish Cream
  • 1.25 oz Amaretto

Stir together.
