Ep 84 - Marvel 1602 - Show Notes

This Week: Spider-Man, the X-Men, Nick Fury, Dr. Strange, Daredevil, Dr. Doom, Black Widow, Captain America and more appear in the waning days of Queen Elizabeth. As the world begins to change and enter into a new age, the question remains - how and why are these Marvel stars appearing nearly 400 years before they're suppose to?

Burn him he's a Witch! - anytime someone says Witchbreed take a drink.

.5 oz. St. George Spiced Pear Liqueur

Press orange peel against insides of Old Fashioned glass. Set aside. Stir the rest of ingredients together with one large ice cube in a cocktail shaker for 20 seconds. Strain cocktail into glass over a fresh large ice cube, and garnish with orange peel.

Virginia Dare

  • 2 slices of pear
  • 2 oz dark rum
  • 1/2 oz Benedictine
  • 2 dashes Agostura Bitters

Muddle one slice of pear in mixing glass. Add rest of ingredients, shake the shit out of it and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with pear slice.

Hot Honey Crisp

  • 2.5 cups Apple Cider
  • 3 oz Barenjager Apple Liquor
  • 2 oz Apple Jack Whiskey

Shake ingredients together. add to lowball glass, garnish with some cinnamon stick.

The Flip

  • 12 oz low-hop, high-malt beer (Moylan’s Scotch Ale)
  • 2 oz Jamaican Rum (Appleton Estates)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Teaspoon molasses
  • Fresh grated nutmeg

Keep the beer room temperature to make it easier to heat the mixture. Whip the egg, molasses and rum together in a heat-tolerant vessel. Add the beer. Stick a red-hot piece of iron into that vessel and don’t pull it out until the foaming subsides. Grate fresh nutmeg over the top. Be safe with this one.

Civil War - The Cocktail

The weekend is here, and Monday morning there will be a new episode of the Funnybooks and Firewater podcast discussing the 2007 Marvel event comic Civil War (just in time for the new Captain America movie coming out on Friday).  With a minor amount of internet research I found a recipe for a Civil War themed cocktail appropriately named, "The Civil War".

6 oz Cola
1/2 oz Grenadine
2 oz Jack Daniels
2 oz Southern Comfort

Simply mix it all together in a glass with ice.  Garnish with mint leaves if you're feeling fancy.

When I was making this, I skipped the Grenadine (cause I didn't have any) and it turned out fine.  So good in fact, my wife even asked me to make one for her, and as we have stated before, I'm a terrible bar tender.
