Ep 76 - Powers: Who Killed Retro Girl? - Show Notes

Heroes glide through the sky on lightning bolts and fire. Flamboyant villains attempt daring daylight robberies. God-like alien creatures clash in an epic battle in the night sky. And on the dirty city streets below, homicide detective Christian Walker does his job. Detective Walker has to investigate the shocking murder of one of the most popular superheroes the world has ever known: Retro Girl. Walker is teamed up with spunky rookie Detective Deena Pilgrim and the investigation takes them from the seediest underbelly a city has to off er, to the gleaming towers that are home to immortal beings. As shocking twisted hidden truths about Retro Girl come to light, Walker finds that to solve this crime, he might have to reveal his own dark secret. This week we are reading Powers, Who Killed Retro Girl?

Cocktail 



Power Drainer

  • 1.5 oz Plymouth Gin
  • 0.25 oz Triple Sec
  • 1.5 oz Orange juice
  • 0.75 oz lime juice 
  • 1 tsp grenadine 

Shake over broken ice, pour into glass.   



The Retro Girl

  • 2oz bourbon, rye whiskey, or gin
  • Half of a lime squeezed and dropped in the glass
  • Sparkling mineral water

Preparation Combine spirit, lime and shell in a highball or wine glass. Add ice, stir and then add sparkling mineral water.



The Diamond

  • 2 oz gin
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • 1 oz honey simple syrup

Add all to a shaker over ice, shake the shit out of it, strain into a martini glass or over ice,



The Deana Pilgrim

  • 3/4 oz Amaretto (Disaronno)
  • 1-1/4 oz Vodka
  • 2 oz Sweet and Sour Mix
  • 1/2 oz Lime Juice
  • Lemon-lime Soda (7-Up or Sprite)
  • wedge Lemon
  • Garnish: Lemon
  • Glass: Highball Glass

Ep 75 - Green Arrow: Quiver - Show Notes

The original Green Arrow, Oliver Queen, reemerges after years of being assumed dead. But many people, including Black Canary, his ex-lover, Arsenal, his ex-partner, Connor Hawke, his son and temporary successor and Batman, the Dark Knight Detective, want to know how Green Arrow survived the airplane explosion and where he has been. Using strong characterization and engaging dialogue, comics and screenplay writer and movie director Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma, Batman: Cacophony) successfully resurrects one of the world's classic heroes this week in Quiver.

Cocktail



Quiver

  • 1 1/2 ounces Heaven Hill 6-year Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon
  • 3/4 ounce Bigallet China-China Amer Liqueur
  • 1/2 ounce Campari 
  • 2 dashes orange bitters
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters
  • Orange peel, for serving

Stir the bourbon, China-China Amer Liqueur, Campari, orange bitters and Angostura bitters together in a mixing glass with ice. Strain the cocktail into a rocks glass with 1 large ice cube. Garnish with the orange peel.



Angry Archer

  • 4 oz Angry Orchard Crisp Apple
  • 1 oz white rum
  • .5 oz lime juice
  • .5 oz simple syrup
  • 1 dash of bitters
  • 2 slices of cucumber s muddled
  • 6 mint leaves muddled


Poisoned Arrow

  • 0.5 oz Malibu Rum
  • 0.5 oz light rum
  • 0.5 oz Blue Curacao
  • 0.5 oz Apple Pucker or Midori
  • Equal parts sweet and sour mix and pineapple juice

Shake the shit out of it, pour it over ice, and garnish with a cherry.

  • 1 oz Jack Daniels
  • 1 oz Peach Schnapps
  • 1 oz blue Curacao

Shake the shit out of it,  pour into a row of shot glasses.

This week Archie, one of the longest-running titles in comic book history, is rebooted here in this full-color collection that brings together two of the most talented creators in comics, Mark Waid and Fiona Staples. Together they create a surprising and definitive take on Archie's origin--a story that has never been told. The book will captures the bite and hilarious edge of Archie's original tales in a modern, forward-looking manner, while still retaining the character's all-ages appeal. If classic Archie is a Saturday morning cartoon, this new series is prime time

Cocktails



All American - (Apple bottom Shake)

Ingredients:

  • Salior Jerry Rum
  • Apple Pie
  • Vanilla Ice Cream 

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a blender and mix. Add whipped cream as a garnish if desired.



#lipstick Incident

  • 1 part Fireball
  • 1 part peach liquor
  • 1 splash of grenadine
  • 1 splash of lemon lime soda

Mix liquors over ice, strain into a glass, ad the grenadine and lemon lime soda.



The Homecoming

  • 1.25 oz Baileys Irish Cream
  • 1.25 oz Amaretto

Stir together.

Ep 73 - Age of X - Show Notes

In a world where the X-Men never existed and mutantkind has been hunted to extinction, the few remaining mutants have banded together to make their last stand. What has led Magneto and these warped X-Men to these dire circumstances - and who can save them all? We find out this week with Age of X.



Drink to to make sense - Confused? Why not be confused AND drunk. 

Who the fuck is this? - when ever you don’t know who characters are, take a drink.

X Marks the Spot -  Every time the character X is mentioned or speaks, take a drink.

Scott Summers is Sullen -  Every tim Scott Summers aka Baskalist aka Cyclops is moody, take a drink. 


Cocktails



The Mohawk:

  • ¾ ounces tobacco syrup (see recipe below)
  • 2½ ounces Rye Whiskey
  • ½ ounces Bonal Gentiane-Quina
  • Dash of Decanter bitters
  • Lemon twist, for garnish

For Tobacco syrup:

  • Dried whole leaf tobacco
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups granulated sugar

To make tobacco syrup: Bring cold water to a boil in a saucepan, add sugar, then lower heat. Next, add dried tobacco leaf and stir constantly until sugar dissolves completely. Test if sugar is completely dissolved by using a metal spoon to scoop up a small bit of syrup. Tilt it over the pan and watch carefully. There should be no crystals in the liquid. Let syrup cool to room temperature. Pour into a clean glass jar and refrigerate.

To make The Mohawk: Combine all ingredients in cocktail shaker. Stir with ice and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with lemon twist.



Reaper

  • 1 oz Kahlua
  • 1 oz Bacardi 151 rum
  • Dash of grenadine

Pour Kailua rum into a highball glass.  Add two ice cubes and pour the grenadine over them for a red tint.  



Legion

The drink's ingredients include 

  • 1 1/2 oz Scotch whiskey, 
  • 2 1/2 oz red wine, 
  • 1/2 oz Triple Sec, 
  • 1 splash of VSOP or other brandy, 
  • 1 splash of Grand Marnier, 
  • 1/2 oz of pineapple juice
  • a cherry and mint for garnish


Kill all of them

  • 1/2 oz Blue Curacao Liqueur
  • 1/2 oz Green Crème de Menthe
  • 1 tsp Everclear

Pour the green Crème de Menthe into a shot glass. Add blue Curacao, top with Everclear, and ignite. Take care, and extinguish before consuming
