Satan's Whiskers

Were taking out our first Manga this week with Death Note, written by Tsugumi Ohba and art by Takeshi Obata,.  An epic cat and mouse game between a brilliant teen who can easily kill just by writing down a name, and the detective determined to catch the killer.

  • .5 oz Gin
  • .5 oz Sweet Vermouth
  • .5 oz Dry Vermouth
  • .25 oz Grand Mariner
  • .5 oz Orange Juice

This is a very old cocktail, and not nearly as bad ass as the name implies.

The Hickey

This week we are discussing 2002 Wonder Woman: The Hiketeia. From Greg Rucka and J.G. Jones, this book would begin Rucka’s long run writing Wonder Woman.  We changed up the format a little this week.  In part one we do a spoiler free intro to the book, then in part two we step thru the plot of the book and explore this gem.  Let us know what you think of the format change on our website, or any of our social media outlets.  Next week we are reading Hawkeye: My Life as a Weapon.  A modern take on what an Avenger does when he has no suit, no powers, and isn’t Avenging.

2 oz. UV Cherry Vodka
4 oz. Cactus Cooler
2 dashes of Orange Bitters

Add all ingredients to glass, stir and add ice. It's that simple! Just be careful not to overindulge. It tastes like happy in a glass without a hint of alcohol. Also, do not under ANY circumstances do shots of the vodka.

Adam created this drink, cause he couldn't figure out how to say the name of the book.

Fit for a Queen

With beautiful art by Alex Ross, a script by Mark Waid this DC Elseworlds mini-series made a splash in 1996.  This week we are discussing Kingdom Come.  A futuristic story that deals with the conflict between the out of touch heroes we know, and a new group of dangerous vigilantes.

1oz Vodka
1oz Grand Marnier
Lime
Tripple Sec
Top with Champagne
2 Dashes Orange Bitters

Drink one of these and you’ll be as much of a queen as Adam.

Suffering Bastard

This week we stretch our feminist muscle with Bitch Planet.  We read the first collection of this current series by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Valentine De Landro.  It is both a feminist parody of exploitation films, specifically women in prison movies, and a great commentary on society.

1 oz burbon
1 oz gin
.25 oz lime juice
1 dash orange bitters
.5 oz ginger liquore
add ginger beer

Mix all the ingredients together.  Top off with ginger beer.

The men in this comic are suffering yet, but I'm sure they will eventually get the suffering they deserve.

Cherry Bitch

This week we stretch our feminist muscle with Bitch Planet.  We read the first collection of this current series by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Valentine De Landro.  It is both a feminist parody of exploitation films, specifically women in prison movies, and a great commentary on society.

Infuse Gin with Berry and ancient flower loose leave tea
Muddle Cherries
Apple Juice
Orange Bitters,
Lime Juice

This was an experiment from the mad scientist Adam. He didn't have any measurements.  The infused Gin was added to muddled cherries, with a dash of orange bitters, some lime juice, and some apple juice.
