Ep 125 - Superman vs Muhammad Ali

This Week: We start our Sports Ball Month with Muhammad Ali vs Superman.  Two legendary figures meet for the first time in this spectacular adventure, as an alien race called the Scrubb demand that Earth's greatest champion battle their world's own greatest fighter. Both Superman and Muhammad Ali step forward -- and to determine who is truly Earth's greatest fighter, Superman temporarily loses his powers and faces Ali in the ring. Ultimately, the duo must work together to defeat the Scrubb, with Ali taking on their champion while Superman battles their space-armada.


Drinking Game

I'm the GOAT!- Take a drink anytime Ali says he's the greatest or mentions how good of a fighter he is.

What CANT He Do!?-  Every time Superman talks about his powers or uses them in ways you didn't know he could take a drink. 

Trash Talk - Anytime Ali plays mind games with his opponent, take a drink.  

Why do aliens always have an apostrophe in their name? -  Every time there is and apostrophe in the middle of an alien name, take a drink. 


Cocktails 

Mister Sandman's Dreamland Express Punch,

by Jasper's Corner Tap's Kevin Diedrich, San Francisco (Serves 10): 

  • 1 cup Bluecoat gin 
  • 1 cup Sandeman port 
  • .75 cup Pierre Ferrand Dry Curacao 
  • .75 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice 
  • .5 cup cane syrup 
  • 1 cup sparkling wine 

Mix all the ingredients in punch bowl, top off with sparkling wine, and garnish with seasonal fruit.


The Champ

  • 1 1/2 oz brandy
  • 1 oz Dark Creme de Cacao
  • 1 oz half-and-half or heavy cream
  • 1/4 tsp grated nutmeg

Shake the shit our of all the ingredients except the nutmeg.  Strain into a cocktail glass. 


Sting Like a Bee

 

for Honey syrup

  • 1oz honey
  • 1/2 oz hot water

for cocktail:

  • 1 jalapeño slice, about 1/2 inch thinck
  • 1 1/2 oz reposado tequila
  • 3/4 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 3/4 oz honey syrup
  • Garnish with jalapeño slice and lemon twist

Stir honey and hot water together to make honey syrup

Muddle jalapeño in the shaker gently. Add tequila, lemon juice, and honey syrup. Oil shake with ice and shake the shit out of it.  Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish.  


G.O.A.T.

  • 1 oz port
  • 1oz cognac
  • 1 whole egg
  • .5 oz rhum clement syrup
  • freshly grated nutmeg

Shake the shit out of it without ice.  Add ice and shake again.  Strain uno ta glass and garnish with nutmeg.

Ep 100 - Superman: Secret Identity

This Week:  Another fan chose book for March Madness, Superman Secret Identity: In this critically acclaimed work from writer Kurt Busiek (ASTRO CITY) and artist Stuart Immonen (Ultimate X-Men), an alternate “Clark Kent” encounters complications the real Superman never had to handle: a career, a wife, children—a real life. 

Despite his iconic name, Clark Kent from Picketsville, Kansas, is just a normal kid whose parents thought they were being clever. He can’t fly, or see through walls, or shrug off speeding bullets—that is, until the day he can. And it’s all much harder than it looks in the comics.

Follow Clark across the decades as this man with powers tries to prove he can make the world a safer place without sacrificing everything.

Lois Lane

  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 2 ounces freshly squeezed pink grapefruit juice (That’s about ½ a grapefruit.)
  • ½ ounce (1 tablespoon) fresh lime juice
  • 3 ounces chilled ginger beer
  • 1 sprig fresh rosemary
  • Sliced grapefruit (optional)

Instructions

  1. Fill a tall glass with ice. Add the vodka, grapefruit juice, lime juice, and ginger beer, and stir to combine. Garnish with a sprig of fresh rosemary and grapefruit slices and serve.


Writers Block

  • 1.5 oz Disaronno Ameretto
  • 1.5 oz Burbon
  • Just of 1/2 small lemon (.5 oz)
  • Angostura bitters - 2 good shakes
  • 2 ice cubes

Stir and enjoy.



The Superman

  • 1 ounce gin
  • 1 ounce mandarin juice (or any orange juice)
  • 3/4 ounce dry vermouth
  • 1/2 ounce apricot brandy
  • 1 teaspoon grenadine syrup

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, pour in the ingredients and shake. Pour (not strain) into an old fashioned glass and garnish with a speared cherry.



Superman

• 1/3 oz. Schnapps, peach

• 1/3 oz. Rum, coconut

• 1/3 oz. Triple Sec

• 1 splash Grenadine

• Fill with Pineapple Juice

Fill glass with ice, add equal parts rum, peach schnapps and triple sec. Fill with pineapple juice, stir. Top with grenadine.

This week we’re reading the best selling graphic novel of all time (or so the cover says), The Death of Superman.  It’s the comic book event that crossed over to pop culture in a big way.  It also influenced the film Batman v. Superman.

Next week we finish off our month of Gaps in Our knowledge with Fables.  A modern update on fairy tale characters in New York City.  



  • 2 ounces rum
  • ¾ ounce lime juice
  • 1 ounce simple syrup
  • ½ ounce Fernet
  • 6-7 fresh mint leaves

1. Place mint leaves in shaker along with simple syrup, muddle until the mint is aromatic and add ice.

2. Add rum, lime juice and Fernet to cocktail shaker, and then shake until the outside is frosted.

3. Strain contents into a glass over ice and enjoy!

  • 1/2 oz  rum
  • 1/2 oz  tequila
  • 1/2 oz  gin
  • 1/2 oz  Blue Curacao liqueur
  • 2 oz  sweet and sour mix
  • 2 oz  7-Up® soda

Instructions

Pour all ingredients except the 7-Up into a chilled glass filled with ice cubes. Top with 7-Up and stir gently.

JLA: The Drinking Game

This week we are begging out month of Gaps in Knowledge, books we feel we should have read before, but for some reason are just getting around to know.  We start with a gap in Q's knowledge, JLA.



The Martian! Rule:  Every time a character announces that someone is a Martian, take a drink. 

The Superman’s Mullet Rule:  Every time you think Superman sang Achey Breaky Heart based on his hair cut, take a drink.

The “That’s Fucking Team Work” Rule: When the JLA’s team work is either unsuccessful, or successful, take a drink.

The Zordon Rule:  If you hear Zordon’s power ranger voice in your head when you read Protext’s dialogue, take a drink.
