Ep 124 - Manifest Destiny

This Week: In 1804, Captain Meriwether Lewis and Second Lieutenant William Clark set out from St. Louis, Missouri with the intent of blazing a trail to the western coast of North America-a trip that would set the foundation for the future of the United States of America. But what the history books don't tell you is the true purpose of Lewis and Clark's journey to the west...

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas-Anytime you see the color red or green used prominently to depict an act of violence, take a drink

Why did we bring those guys again? - Take a drink every time there is a question as to why certain people were brought on the expedition. 


Cocktails 

Army Grog

In a shaker full of ice add

  • 1 oz Gold Rum
  • 1 oz Dark Jamaican Rum
  • 1 oz White Rum
  • 3/4 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • 3/4 oz Grapefruit Juice
  • 1 oz Honey Syrup (Equal parts Honey and Water)

Shake the shit out of it.  Strain into a glass full of ice. Top with soda water.


Minty Orchard

  • 4 oz Angry Orchard Crisp Apple
  • 1 oz Vodka
  • 0.5 oz Creme de menthe
  • 0.25 oz Lemon Juice

Shake the shit out of it over ice, pour into a rocks glass. Top with Angry Orchard Crisp Apple. Garnish with a mint sprig. 


Bachelor’s Button Martini

For the simple syrup:

  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • ¼ cup bachelor’s button petals

For the cocktail:

  • 2 ounces gin
  • 1 ½ ounces Lillet Blanc
  • ¼ ounce bachelor’s button simple syrup
  • 1 ounce lemon juice
  • 1 egg white
  • Bachelor’s button and carnation petals, for garnish

HOW TO MAKE IT

To make the syrup, combine the sugar, water and bachelor’s button petals in a small saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Simmer until sugar has dissolved, then lower heat. Cook another 10-15 minutes to allow petals to steep; let cool and strain.After the syrup has cooled, add all cocktail ingredients to a shaker and fill with ice. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds or until very foamy. Strain into glasses and garnish with carnation and bachelor’s button petals.


Midori sour

  • 1.5 oz Midori Melon Liquor
  • 2 oz sour mix
  • 1.5 oz fresh lime juice

Shake the shit out of it over ice. Strain into glass with ice, and top with a dash of lemon lime soda. Garnish with a cherry. 


Minotaurs Blood Slush

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1.5 teaspoons coconut extract

Puree the strawberries. and put all ingredients into a medium sauce pan. bring to a boil. reduce heat, and simmer for 10-15 min. 

chill, and then pour over thinly crushed ice along with some soda water.

Ultimately, the duo must work together to defeat the Scrubb, with Ali taking on their champion while Superman battles their space-armada.

Ep 123 - The Sentry

This Week: Middle aged, overweight Bob Reynolds remembers that he is the Sentry, a superhero whose "power of one million exploding suns" derives from a special serum. Realizing that his archenemy the Void is returning, Reynolds seeks out several prominent Marvel characters to warn them and to discover why no one remembers the Sentry.


Drinking Games 

Stay Gold Pony Boy - Every time the color gold is mentioned, take a drink.  

‘Member? Don’t you ‘member - Every time the Sentry Struggles to get another hero to remember him, take a drink. 

Holy Retro Batman - Anytime there is a flashback in vintage comic book style, take a drink. 


Cocktails

Memory Loss Cocktail

  • 1 oz. Banana Liqueur
  • 1.5 oz. Cranberry Juice 
  • 1.5 oz. Orange Juice 
  • 1 oz. Vodka 
  • 1 oz. Chambord raspberry liqueur 

Mix all ingredients in glass w/ice, you can either drink as is or strain drink into two shots -large shots.


Smoothie  of Million Exploding Suns 

Grenadine Drizzle down side of glasses

In blender combine:

  • 12 oz peach juice
  • 1 scoop low fat vanilla frozen yogurt 
  • 1 scoop pineapple sherbert
  • 1 scoop peaches
  • 1 scoop mangos
  • 1 scoop strawberries 
  • ice 

Once blended, pour into glass with grenadine. 


Forget Me Not

  • 50 ml Tequila 
  • 15 ml Aperol
  • 1 bottle Blunderburg Pink grapefruit juice 
  • 20 ml lime juice

Shake all the ingredients together over ice, strain into tall glass. Garnish with orange and lime wedges.

Ep 122 - March - Show Notes

This Week: March is a vivid first-hand account of John Lewis' lifelong struggle for civil and human rights, meditating in the modern age on the distance traveled since the days of Jim Crow and segregation. Rooted in Lewis' personal story, it also reflects on the highs and lows of the broader civil rights movement. 

Book One spans John Lewis' youth in rural Alabama, his life-changing meeting with Martin Luther King, Jr., the birth of the Nashville Student Movement, and their battle to tear down segregation through nonviolent lunch counter sit-ins, building to a stunning climax on the steps of City Hall. 

Many years ago, John Lewis and other student activists drew inspiration from the 1958 comic book "Martin Luther King and the Montgomery Story." Now, his own comics bring those days to life for a new audience, testifying to a movement whose echoes will be heard for generations.

Cocktails 

Sweet Tea Mint Juleps

(Makes 4)

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 5 to 6 mint leaves
  • 2 family-sized tea bags
  • 3 cups water
  • 3/4 to 1 cup bourbon
  • crushed ice
  • lemon slices
  • mint sprigs

Instructions

  1.  Bring 2 cups water, sugar, and mint leaves to a boil in a medium saucepan, stirring to dissolve sugar.
  2. Remove from heat and add tea bags. Steep for about 5 minutes.
  3. Remove tea bags and add 3 cups cold water.
  4. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
  5. Add bourbon to tea mixture. Fill glasses with crushed ice. Add tea mixture and garnish with lemon and mint. Squeeze lemon into drink if desired.

May I Speak to the Manager Please

  • 3 oz Dark Rum
  • 1 oz Ginger Liquor
  • Splash of Orange Juice
  • 2-3 pinches of Ground Cardimum

Add to shaker with Ice.  Shake the shit out of it. Strain into a glass with ice. Add 2 slightly crushed mint leaves. Garnish with orange slice. 


Virgin Mint Julep

  • 6 oz frozen lemonade concentrate 
  • 3 oz limeade concentrate 
  • 4 teaspoons of creme de menth syrup

Mix and combined with club soda and or water to taste. Garnish with mint leaves and cherries. 


Martin Luther King, Jr 

  • 2 oz Canadian Whiskey
  • 1 oz Dry Vermouth
  • 2 Dashes Bitters
  • Lemon Twist

Add ingredients (except lemon twist) to cocktail shaker with ice, stir till outside of shaker is cold.  Strain into a glass over ice, and add lemon twist. 


Alabama Slammer

  • 1 oz southern comfort
  • 1 oz amaretto
  • 1 oz sloe gin
  • 2 oz orange juice

Fill cocktail shaker half with ice cubes.  Add all ingredients. Shake the shit out of it. Fill a high ball glass with ice, and strain drink into glass. Garnish with Cherry Orange Wheel.

Ep 121 - Vader Down Show Notes

This Week:  It’s Andy Wilson Month!  And were starting off with the Star Wars cross over: Vader Down!

Two of the biggest titles in comics collide in the first crossover of the new Marvel age of Star Wars! When Darth Vader accidentally finds himself facing off against the Rebel Fleet on his own, he is sent crashing onto a nearby planet. Will the Rebels seize this opportunity to put an end to one of their greatest enemies - or will they be made to feel the full power of the Dark Side? The Sith Lord may be down, he isn't out! All your favorites are here, old and new, good and evil: Luke! Vader! Leia! Aphra! Han! Threepio, Artoo, Triple-Zero and BT-1! And, in a hair-raising battle of the Wookiees, Chewbacca versus Black Krrsantan! Roooarrgh ur roo!

Name Droppers - Take a drink whenever they say a characters name.  

I Have You Now - Anytime someone thinks they have the drop on someone, take a drink. 

The Many Faces of Vader  - Every time there is a new emotion showed on Darth Vader’s Mask, take a drink. 

You Don’t know the Power of the Dark Side - Every Time Vader uses the force, take a drink. 

Communication Breakdown - Anytime two characters are communicating over communicators or radios, take a drink. 


Cocktails

Death Star

  • 1 oz Jägermeister digestif
  • 1 oz Gentleman Jack Tennessee whiskey
  • 1 oz Grey Goose vodka
  • 1 oz Triple sec
  • 2 oz Sour mix
  • 2 oz Coca-Cola

Add all the ingredients in a Collins glass over ice and stir.

Garnish with a straw.


Murderbot

  • 2.5 oz Dark Rum
  • 2.5 oz Amaretto
  • 1 oz Coconut Cream
  • 6 oz Pineapple Juice
  • Splash of milk
  • Crushed ice
  • 1.5 oz 151 rum
  • Brandied Cherry

Pour dark rum, amaretto, cream of coconut, pineapple juice and mile into a blender with crushed ice.

Blend until smooth (add more ice if necessary). 


Alderaan Suburn 

  • 4 oz Tequila 
  • 4 oz Orange Juice
  • 1/2 oz Grenadine

Add Tequila and Orange Juice in a high ball glass with ice.  Stir, and add grenadine along the edge. 

Garnish with orange and maraschino cherry


The Darth Vader

  • 1/2 oz gin
  • 1/2 oz light rum
  • 1/2 oz white tequila
  • 1/2 oz tripple sec
  • 1/2 oz vodka
  • 2 oz sour mix

Combine all ingredients with ice in a shaker and shake the shit out of it. Pour into a collins glass and top with Jaegermeister 


Vader’s Spicy Blade 

  • 4 cups of watermelon seeded
  • 4 tablespoons sugar (or simple syrup)
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1/2 cup of mint leaves
  • 1 jalapeño seeded and chopped

Blend until smooth.  Then strain and mix with soda water to taste.
